Officially, Street Sports, referring to the daily livability and performance of the Type S. Type S refers to the newly resurrected Integra, two vehicles that are quite different but bred in the same spirit. Type R refers to the 1990s Integra, available in the U.S. Q: What is the difference between Integra Type R and Type S? Type R was associated with the Acura Integra in the past, and given today's similarities, what's better comes down to styling and brand preference more than anything else. They are pretty much the same, but Type S designates the Acura, while Type R designates a Civic. The deciding factors may just well come down to brand and styling preferences, along with budget of course, as those are really the only things that add up to any significant differences. We think one can't go wrong with either choice given how similar they are. Nevertheless, given today's car market and dealer mark-ups, the cost between the two may not be that much when all is said and done. It does have more included and exclusive options standard or available. The lack of a rear wing makes it less "loud," although the exhaust note isn't so regulated. Today the Acura has more of a punch with the five horsepower bump, as well as more polish, and the weight difference isn't even that significant. The older Civic had more wild styling in contrast to the Acura's more upscale approach. The difference perhaps would be more stark if we were talking the previous generation of the Civic Type R, but in its new guise, the Type R has itself matured as well. This vehicle is more mature and refined, and that results in requiring a grown-up level of income. The consensus appears to be that the Acura Integra Type S is the Honda Civic Type R for adults. The driver gets a 12-way power adjustable seat, and both front seats are heated. The perforated seats, though not offering less grip, are not as aggressive and don't have the holes for shoulder harnesses. The Type S gets a standard 16-speaker ELS Studio 3D premium sound system, while the Civic R has a 12-speaker Bose system. The inside of the Acura is a bit more refined, which makes sense given the premium designation. All in all, seven color options are available to the Civic's five:Įxcept for Lunar Silver Metallic, all other colors are premium options. Also, exclusive to the Type S is the Tiger Eye Pearl paint. This is because some markets are against these growls and pops, and the Civic R is available around the globe, while the Type S is exclusive to North America.
